Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced and talented individual to be the Operations Manager for AeroFarms’ new growing and packaging facility for RTE leafy greens in Danville, VA. In this role, you will lead and/or assist the Plant Manager, Lead Grower, Harvest/Pack Manager, and Shipping/Safety Supervisors in implementing operational, food safety, safety, and sanitation procedures and programs to comply with local, state, and federal rules and regulations. You will inspect machinery, plant interior/exterior, infrastructure, outside areas, composting areas, and tools/utensils used daily to make sure that they are in good condition. You will validate the Operational employee’s work schedule and assist Sanitation Supervisor in ensuring the Master Sanitation plan tasks are in accordance to master cleaning schedules, are maintained to operating procedures day and night.


  • Validate employee work assignments for their daily jobs according to the daily production schedule.
  • Inspect and monitor; ensure employees do their jobs according to the company-approved SOP’s.
  • Inspect machinery, plant floor areas, outside areas, composting areas, and tools/utensils used in Seeding, Grow, Packaging, and sanitation area and ensure good condition.
  • Proactively ensure all plant areas are maintained to operating standards day and night.
  • Ensure all preventive controls, operating procedures, cleaning and sanitizing tasks according to master cleaning schedules, SOP’s, monitor progress, and ensure Sanitation Supervisor sanitation master cleaning schedule is up to date.
  • Conduct impromptu internal facility inspections with the food safety team to mirror regulatory inspections; prepare written reports of findings and make recommendations for corrective or preventive measures.
  • Coordinate with maintenance any job required to keep the deep cleaning schedules up to date.
  • Coordinate with maintenance and preventive maintenance/sanitation required after repairs are completed to ensure safe food production.
  • Ensure all employees follow proper GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices) and proper safety procedures while performing sanitation work.
  • Evaluate employees on their performance and apply company-approved disciplinary actions when needed (e.g., when employees do not follow safety or sanitation procedures).
  • Keep plant inspection-ready by utilizing personnel and reducing downtime.
  • Communicate with Plant Manager when support is not readily given by another department when facility deviations occur.
  • Assists, plan, and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
  • Advise Food Safety & Quality Director on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions.

You Have: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of previous managerial/supervisory experience in produce/high-speed packaging/RTE operations
  • Previous experience working within the food/beverage industry in a high-volume environment preferred.
  • Must be willing to take on a variety of roles within the Production facility including working on the line when needed.
  • Dedicated commitment to customer service and fostering a team environment.
  • Excellent ability to prioritize work against tight timelines, operate with a sense of urgency, and perform under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be a team player, good motivator, and must be able to provide coaching and training in a positive and effective manner.
  • General knowledge and/or experience in SPC, food safety, and OSHA guidelines
  • Weekend work is required. Both Saturday and Sunday depending on the business need.
