Iron Ox is looking for an Automation Controls Engineer to join the team designing, developing, and supporting this automated infrastructure. This role requires a hands-on approach and someone who thrives on ambiguity and creative freedom. You will contribute to all parts of the controls development process from complete system design, component specification, procurement, building, programming, testing, and support.
At Iron Ox, we are automating the entire plant production process. From the development of multiple robot platforms to our own custom hydroponic, seeding, and harvesting systems. We are taking a system-level approach to creating the ideal farm.
What You’ll Do
Design, build, program, and commission PLC based control systems
Work with the team to specify and source off-the-shelf electrical and pneumatic components
Generate electrical and control systems documentation including schematics, BOMs, and control diagrams
Work with vendors for control panel builds, or build them yourself
Integrate externally sourced control systems into our automated greenhouse
Guide our PLC software programs to meet industry standards and good practices
Collaborate with engineers across disciplines (both hardware and software) as well as growing, product, and operational teams
Work with the team to debug and troubleshoot issues with automated systems
Participate in design discussions and reviews
What You’ll Bring
3+ years professional experience working with a major PLC platform
BS in Electrical Engineering or a related field
Made major contributions to an industrial PLC control system
Experience using electrical CAD software such as Solidworks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, or EPLAN
Experience writing and debugging Structured Text PLC control code
Experience interfacing PLCs with other software systems
A passion for tackling unfamiliar challenges and getting your hands dirty
Experience with 6-axis robotic arms
Experience working with SQL databases, MQTT, or REST APIs
Experience with Beckhoff PLC systems
Experience with industrial safety systems
