Who We’re We Looking For:
At Iron Ox, we are automating the entire plant production process. From developing multiple robot platforms to our own custom hydroponic, seeding, and harvesting systems. We are taking a system-level approach to create the ideal farm. We are looking for a highly motivated Automation Controls Engineer to design and develop innovative new automation solutions.
This role requires a hands-on approach from someone who thrives on ambiguity and creative freedom. The ability to take ownership of projects in a startup environment and drive them to completion is essential to this role.
What Will You Do Here?
Develop electrical and control systems for innovative greenhouse automation products
Work cross-functionally to specify, source, and integrate electrical and pneumatic components
Write PLC software to implement control system designs
Generate electrical and control systems documentation including schematics, BoMs, and control diagramsCoordinate with manufacturing to build control panels, wiring harnesses, and other controls subassemblies
Integrate externally sourced control systems into our automated greenhouse
Collaborate with engineers across disciplines (both hardware and software) as well as growing, product, and operational teams
Work with the team to debug and troubleshoot issues with automated systems
Bachelor’s engineering degree in electrical, mechatronics, or related field
3+ years professional experience working with a major PLC platform
Experience writing and debugging Structured Text PLC control code
Experience using electrical CAD software such as Solidworks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, or EPLAN
Experience interfacing PLCs with other software systems
A passion for tackling unfamiliar challenges and getting your hands dirty.
Nice To Haves:
Experience with FANUC 6-axis robotic arms
Experience working with SQL databases, MQTT, or REST APIs
Experience with Beckhoff PLC systems
Experience implementing Functional Safety systems
