The Backend Staff Software Engineer will design and align core functionality to support the core of the company, using a holistic view of all of Indigo’s lines of business to architect and build the easiest to use, reusable, most performant APIs. They will be integrated with engineers and teams throughout the company: Insights, Bidding, Contracting, Merchandise, Billing, Source, Carbon, UI, Mobile, ERP, etc. By stewarding best security practices via authorization and authentication, they will model Indigo’s and Indigo’s customers’ businesses.

  • About You

  • Understand how to build high-throughput, re-useable APIs
  • Familiar with asynchronous processing and multithreading
  • Able to understand multiple use cases and design systems around them.
  • Able to research and propose new technologies or software patterns to make improvements
  • Can explain to the pros and cons of approaches such as microservices vs. monoliths, mono vs. shared repos, containers vs. VMs, ReST vs. GraphQL, etc.
  • Can confidently share their technical opinion amongst peers and engineering leadership as well as constructively challenge the opinions of others
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Has been building backend software professionally for 4+ years with progressively increasing responsibilities
  • Python 3 experience preferred, but not required
  • Experience with deployments to cloud environments (AWS preferred, but not required)
  • Experience implementing monitoring, logging and profiling best practices for distributed systems
  • Create thoroughly tested code that others can understand
  • You can lead technical architecture discussions and can achieve timely consensus regarding technical decisions within your team
  • You bring a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and self awareness
