How you will make a difference

In this role, you will have the opportunity to leverage your analytical skills to support the Corporate Engagement team and accelerate the growth of the alternative protein industry. You will be a go-to source on understanding the alternative protein landscape and identifying gaps and opportunities in the market. The Business Analyst will be responsible for:

  • Performing analysis of the alternative protein business landscape to identify challenges and prioritize innovation opportunities to inform GFI’s corporate engagement strategy across the alternative protein supply chain.
  • Working with engagement leads to analyze existing food company business practices and perform scenario planning for alternative protein growth, including case studies like product portfolio transitions.
  • Creating models and developing forecasts for alternative protein industry growth, as well as analyzing the availability of inputs and enablers (e.g., ingredients, manufacturing capacity, talent pipeline).
  • Surveying alternative protein companies to ensure a robust understanding of industry needs.
  • Creating business tools, including industry reports and webinars, and updating and organizing presentation decks with the most recent and compelling information.
  • Providing analytical support to Corporate Engagement outreach staff by reviewing the competitive landscape, analyzing business data such as those reported in quarterly earnings calls, presenting it in a clear concise manner, and helping the team prepare for meetings by developing related reports and/or presentations.
  • Analyzing alternative protein industry financials and developing summary statistics that may be used to track the industry’s progress and benchmark the industry over time (against itself and other industries).
  • Tracking relevant industry news and insights and updating CE resources.
  • Supporting the Corporate Engagement Project Manager and Research and Analysis Manager in the planning and execution of research and analysis projects.
  • Working collaboratively within the Corporate Engagement team, as well as across departments and with International affiliates, to align goals, coordinate activities, and report outcomes.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Who We’re Looking For 

The Business Analyst must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience or 6+ years of experience if no college degree.
  • Consulting and business research & analysis and/or food industry experience preferred.
  • Experience using data to drive business decisions.
  • Experience creating presentations and/or writing reports.
  • Experience forecasting or developing projections preferred.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong Excel, data management, and data visualization skills.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to succinctly communicate actionable insights to stakeholders.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work well both independently and in concert with a larger group.
  • Intellectual curiosity and interest in the alternative protein industry.
  • Comfort working remotely and in a rapidly growing and evolving organization.
  • Strong support for GFI’s philosophy and mission; demonstrated interest in plant based & other alt proteins, public health, environmentalism, climate change, animal protection, or hunger relief.

The Fine Print

  • Terms of employment: Full-time, exempt
  • Reports to: Emma Ignaszewski, Associate Director, Industry Intelligence & Initiatives
  • Location: Remote; United States
  • Travel: Flexible, but anticipated travel of one week per quarter for conferences, workshops, and organizational retreats. During the pandemic, all business is being conducted virtually.

  • Salary: $70,000-$73,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)
