Co-founder and CEO, Arturo Elizondo, grew up on both sides of the Texas-Mexico border. Food, particularly animal protein, was a big part of his culture. After working for the USDA overseeing slaughterhouses in 2010 and witnessing how food gets to the plate and the environmental destruction it causes, he tried to go vegan. 

In 2013, Arturo studied food security in Geneva, learning the global impact animal agriculture has on our food system. In 2014, he booked a one-way ticket to San Francisco to tackle the problem first-hand. 

Once in San Francisco, Arturo met co-founders David Anchel and Isha Datar through the New Harvest research community, and Clara Foods was born in November 2014. Clara Foods set about accelerating new breakthroughs in the development and delivery of ethical and sustainable proteins.

The next 7 years were spent deep in R&D, building an expert team and perfecting their precision fermentation technology platform and proteins. In 2021, they launched the world’s first nature-identical animal-free pepsin. 

Clara Foods rebranded to The EVERY Company in 2021 to better convey their vision of bringing animal-free proteins to everyone, everywhere. They are on a mission to accelerate the world’s transition to animal-free protein, by decoupling proteins from the animals that make them. 

They launched our first animal-free egg protein product, EVERY ClearEgg, in 2021. 

Role and Responsibilities 

The organization is working with industry collaborators to design new-to-world products with higher levels of protein and unique characteristics as well as winning over the world’s largest and most innovative food companies to adopt its portfolio of world-changing proteins. EVERY is looking for a Chief Commercial Officer to join the management team and play an integral role in the organization’s continued success and growth. Key responsibilities of this position include: 

  • Define and implement The Every Company’s commercial strategy 
    • Develop a strategic roadmap and a comprehensive go-to-market strategy for new high value protein products.  
  • Drive revenue growth through sales, partnerships and new collaborations 
    • Driving sales of commercialized products by signing offtake agreements and developing partnerships in the industry. 
    • Identify new joint development partners and opportunities for The Every Company’s product innovation pipeline. 
    • Build and present potential customers with detailed “win-win” business propositions. 
    • Plan and execute multiple large scale commercial agreements with partners.
    • Successfully implement new collaboration models with key customers, driving adoption of new technologies and proteins. 
  • Broaden the Every Company’s commercial, marketing and organizational capabilities. 
    • Developing strategic marketing approach to drive adoption of new animal-free proteins. 
    • Identify opportunities for creating B2C branded products to showcase technology. 
    • Work closely with the CEO, Board and investors to represent commercial needs and challenges of the organization. 
    • Develop and leverage a broad industry network to access new opportunities across the B2B food and consumer food industry. 
    • Hire, retain and develop the right talent to achieve the organization’s commercial objectives.

Professional Qualifications 

  • Deal-making: Successful track record in sourcing, structuring, and closing multi-million dollar deals with high level of complexity in terms of IP, geographic dispersion, and commercial/supply agreements. 
  • Winning the Consumer: Broad experience commercializing novel products in consumer-conscious industries; building desirable products and brands  
  • Driving commercialization in creative ways with experience across multiple go-to-market strategies to multiple formats: B2B, B2C, and premium vs. mass-market 
  • Industry experience in biotech, alternative protein, food, beverage, nutrition, agriculture, cosmetics, materials, or related fields 
  • Creative problem solver (creative brand activations and novel partnerships) 
  • Strong bias-for-action, hungry, closer, and eager to accelerate EVERY’s mission towards transforming our global food system 
  • High intellectual horsepower and strategic chops
