Hooray Foods is on a mission to combat climate change, enhance the world’s ecosystems, and prevent animal suffering, all by providing people around the world with delicious food that gives them the same experience and joy as eating animal products – Hooray!!

Our first product is a plant-based bacon that looks, handles, and tastes almost like the real thing. We just launched at Whole Foods nationwide where it’s been selling fast, and we have other retailers lined up after them to sell our bacon in 2021.

We are looking for a design engineer based out of San Francisco who is excited to put their skills to use in a revolutionary field with a novel product.  You will evaluate, troubleshoot and improve on current processes, equipment, and machinery as well as innovate new ones while working collaboratively with R&D, equipment vendors, engineering firms, and manufacturing sites.

This is a great opportunity to work in a hot new space, work on entirely new production processes, while applying your existing skills and talents.

Main Responsibilities

  • Improving the design and performance of current and new equipment for different plant based product

  • Quickly able to design, cost, buy and/or fabricate and commission new equipment both in lab, pilot and plant scale

  • Work with process engineering, engineering firms, vendors and manufacturing facilities to design new equipment and/or modify/optimize current equipment.

  • Acting as the primary liaison between Hooray, vendors, machine/fabrication shops and design firms

  • Travel will be required to test and manage fabrication of equipment. Occasional travel to manufacturing facilities for additional support for commercialization startups and commissioning new installations.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excitement for the chance to create new innovative processes and technologies while combating climate change

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics and/or Engineering Physics. Other engineering/science degrees are acceptable if the candidate has industry experience with equipment design software and production implementation.

  • Good design heuristics (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc…) and creative problem solver/designer

  • Preference for candidates that have designs that have been put into real-world applications and manufacturing processes

  • Experience with custom fabrication, PLCs, installing standard parts. Experience with welding, machining, CNC, 3D Printing and similar preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead design projects and deliver on-time. Strong candidates will have pharmaceutical and/or food industry experience.

  • Experience in Modeling, simulation, CFD and FEA a plus but not required

  • Understand food safety rules or be willing to learn (HACCP, SQF, GMP)

  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills along with organization

  • Strong teamwork skills to work with team members from different departments either in person or from manufacturing facility or third party engineering firms

  • Strength in statistics preferred (Design Expert, Minitab, R, etc…)

  • Have a passion for continuous improvement and learning

  • Kindness for themselves and others
