Mercy For Animals aims to end industrial animal agriculture by constructing a just and sustainable food system. We envision a world where animals are respected, protected, and free.

As a leading farmed animal advocacy organization, we know that achieving this goal requires a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work environment—one that welcomes and sparks new perspectives and innovative ideas. If you are passionate about our mission, driven to make a big impact for animals, and eager to be part of a dedicated team, join us!

We currently seek a digital marketing specialist to join our public engagement team. In this role, you will help develop messaging strategies and promote supporter engagement by telling powerful stories that drive meaningful, measurable action. You will build and create conversion-driven emails using HTML and determine performance to inform best practices and effective conversion strategies.

You will do invaluable work:

  • Collaborate across departments—executive, government affairs and public policy, corporate engagement, development, investigations, editorial, and others—to create cohesive marketing strategies and increase impact
  • Cross-sell users on internal initiatives that may differ from their interests at point of entry (e.g., soliciting donations from someone initially engaged through institutional policy)
  • Synthesize a unified organizational voice and messaging across departments by collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders
  • Manage email templates, automations, and platform and overall email marketing strategy in Pardot
  • Generate and report on conversion-focused email and website content
  • Act as lead project manager for email campaigns for teams across the region
  • Collaborate with the digital marketing team to determine overall digital marketing strategy
  • Create comprehensive email reports and analyses to help inform strategy, drive donations, and encourage maximum impact of campaigns
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures
  • Perform any other duties assigned by team leader

Your qualifications will take our public engagement team to the next level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, marketing, communications, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Two or more years’ experience in digital content creation and email marketing
  • Solid grasp of web-based user experience, web best practices, and site analytics, as well as SEO and digital marketing strategies and procedures
  • Firm understanding of copy’s essential role in creating a strong digital presence
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with experience communicating successes and opportunities to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in tracking and post-project analysis to determine opportunities and iterate successes and creative learning
  • Knowledge of email marketing and HTML
  • Experience or interest in online creative writing, animal welfare content, marketing, or advertising and managing various deliverables within these projects
  • Ability to travel one to two times per year for conferences and retreats
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Mercy For Animals
  • Commitment to continued personal and organizational growth in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice principles

About Your Team Leader

Your team leader, Rachel, is the digital marketing manager, U.S., at Mercy For Animals. She joined Mercy For Animals in October 2020 after having held various technical roles at marketing agencies, focusing primarily on the nonprofit, politics, higher education, and healthcare spaces. Rachel believes that digital marketing is one of the most effective strategies to advance our world toward the compassionate food system we envision and is always searching for ways to become more effective and make the greatest impact in her work.

Rachel is located in the Indianapolis area and has spent all her life in the Midwest. Her connection to animal agriculture is one of the main reasons she became an advocate for farmed animals and chose to join the Mercy For Animals team.

Outside work, she enjoys cooking vegan food for her friends and family, spending time with her fur children (which currently includes two foster rabbits), visiting local community theaters, and binge-watching the latest TV shows.

Compensation and Benefits

Earn an annual salary of around $46,000–$51,500 (paid hourly), depending on qualifications. In addition to a collaborative and innovative work environment, you will be able to take part in our benefits package, including no- or low-cost health, vision, and dental insurance; generous paid time off and sick leave; and 401(k) retirement plan, with a dollar-to-dollar employer match of up to 3 percent of your annual earnings.

Application Details

We consider traditional and nontraditional qualifications and carefully review each application, resume, and cover letter. Feel encouraged to go outside a traditional cover letter and state how you would add to our culture; what we would gain from having you on our team; and how you align with our organizational vision, mission, and values.
