We are seeking a Director of Technical Business Development to join our dynamic, passionate, and collaborative team dedicated to cultivating and executing new business partnerships within Ginkgo’s space. 
As a Manager/Associate Director/Director/Senior Director (title depends on education and experience) of Business Development for Commercial Cell Engineering – Energy, Remediation & Sustainability (ERS), you will be a core part of the ERS Business Development team at Ginkgo. You will be scouting new areas within the ERS where Ginkgo’s platform can effectively serve as a disruptive technology. Given your industry experience, you know the key players, understand the biotechnology field, keep up with emerging trends, and you can leverage your strong network to create an effective market strategy and sales pipeline. You also enjoy building relationships and teams, and take a proactive approach to maximizing new and existing business opportunities. In your capacity as Manager/Associate Director/Director/Sr Director of Business Development, you will work with a cross-functional team comprising deal transaction, IP, legal, and technical program teams throughout all aspects of the proposal, negotiations and contract execution. And most importantly, you see the bigger picture: you’re excited about Ginkgo and eager to help us achieve our mission of making biology easier to engineer.
Please note: This is a residence-based position, with up to 25% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on bringing new business development and new programs on to Ginkgo’s platform
  • Deliver against agreed objectives and key results (OKRs)
  • Project programs’ future value and maximize their materialization
  • Establish strategic partnerships as a source of new program development opportunities 
  • Identify spin-off opportunities in the ERS space and support their establishment with Ginkgo’s VC partners
  • Oversee network management and lead generation
  • Articulate Ginkgo’s mission, value proposition, and business model, supported by comprehensive characterization of Ginkgo’s capabilities and accomplishments
  • Attend and represent Ginkgo at vertical-related conferences and networking events 
  • Support marketing in vertical-related lead generation activities
  • Foster internal growth
  • Help build Ginkgo’s culture
  • Assist in building critical capability in the ERS team
  • Identify key gaps within the ERS team and recommend effective mitigation solutions
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, and keep them apprised of new developments & needs in the ERS team
  • Support Ginkgo’s alliance managers in generating new business from partners
  • Coach & mentor staff as appropriate in areas such as networking, customer engagement and interaction, deal structure, identification of new business opportunities 
  • Invoke innovative business structures and engagement optionality for given opportunities
  • Identify unique market opportunities for Ginkgo’s platform, including existing codebase or yet to be developed technology
  • Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree
  • For the Director role at least 10+ years of business development or sales experience in a technical field. We will consider other titles/levels based on experience and education
  • Track record of successful deal structuring and execution
  • Deep knowledge of the energy sector or waste management (water, general or organic), biofuels, renewable energy, mining or Industrial Chemicals
  • Subject matter expert in core areas of technical and commercial expertise
  • Technical & commercial excellence
  • Preferred Capabilities and Experience

  • Working knowledge of biotechnology is a plus
  • Degree in life science, physical science, or engineering is preferred
  • Advanced degree preferred (MBA)
