The Director of Product Management, North America is responsible for building and managing the North American Biological Products portfolio including the creation and execution of the annual NA Biological commercial product management plan. This person will work cross-functionally aligning our R&D team and pipeline with the most relevant commercial opportunities, all the way to the front of the organization supporting go-to-market launches of new products with our account manager and marketing teams.
·       The person will evaluate the current ag input market as well as farmer and ag retailers needs. This will include mapping the competitive landscape of products and prices, assessing the needs of current customers, defining potential product offerings
·       The person serves as voice of the market and also owner of the NA Portfolio to the Biologicals Product Development organization to jointly set targets for, monitor progress of and determine launch readiness of the NA development pipeline
·       The person works with Biological Products Product Management and Product Marketing to identify where and how to position Indigo’s proprietary and licensed Biological products. This includes supporting the development and evolution of marketing plans of new and existing products, working with R&D to align appropriate initiatives to support the desired positioning of products, working with Carbon and Source US to develop programs to increase Biological attach rates across Indigo’s Carbon and Source offerings 
·       The person will support the commercial sales activities of the NA Commercial team in setting aspirational sales targets including product prices, supporting the development of GTM approaches including product marketing and training the sales team on the product portfolio
This position will report to our Head of Biologicals, North America.

Key Outcomes

  • Create a commercial biological product management plan in close coordination with Biological Management that includes:
  • Evaluation of the current competitive market landscape, Indigo’s product portfolio, and identification of what product portfolio mix would maximize sales and profitability
  • Identification of our niche and determination of how to target it effectively
  • End goal: be able to make specific recommendations such as, “this is the best way to use our Biologicals (ie drought stress, lower nitrogen for carbon credit/regen farming, etc.)”
  • Understand customer insights, Indigo’s brand, customer service, offer management process, and Indigo’s US Biological products to define a customer journey map:
  • Work with Marketing teams to help identify target customers/segments that are more receptive to our biological products and determine how to position the characteristics of our Biological portfolio to position ourselves uniquely
  • Help map existing products into the customer journey and work with Product Marketing to identify areas of market problems and opportunity
  • Understand market problems and gaps; identify areas where further research is needed, scope and conduct research either internally or using third party resource
  • Establish an ongoing and actionable process for collecting competitor insights and customer feedback 
  • Leverage data to understand performance, identify areas of opportunity, and provide strategic direction to sales, marketing and the Biological team.
  • Determine how to drive Biological attach rate to our Carbon customers:
  • We have millions of acres of interest in our carbon program; the Biological Product Manager will be responsible for defining how to target these customers, introduce them to Indigo’s Biological business and sign 10% of these acres. These farmers are ‘pre-qualified’ as target customers because they’re early adopters and open to new and non-traditional ways of farming such as regenerative ag
  • Build a relationship with and work with the Carbon Team to determine a plan to execute product attachment
  • Create strong working relationships with all adjacent functions, including: Global Product Management, R&D, Formulations, Bioprocessing, Regulatory, Key Account Managers for US Biologicals, US Agronomy, Marketing, with clear guidance on workflow ownership:
  • Identify cross-functional go-to-market opportunities to drive revenue and gross profitability for Indigo as a whole
  • Identify a list of third party products to in-license to compliment our existing portfolio of proprietary products
  • Complete a market assessment of gaps that our current portfolio or near-term pipeline of products cannot effectively penetrate
  • Identify companies and product candidates to in-license
  • In conjunction with the Licensing team, lead commercial negotiations to in-license these products at satisfactory terms
  • Contribute to the Target Product Profile (pipeline priorities) process by providing market signals to Biological Offer Management so they can align R&D priorities with commercial demand.
  • This includes identifying product portfolio gaps for R&D to prioritize on and/or in-license if not feasible for R&D to develop
  • Define the minimum and target requirements for commercial products such as shelf life, on seed stability, win rate etc
  • Identify and prioritize application methods such as seed treatment, folia, co-applied with fertilizers etc and work with Formulations team to execute
  • Lead the US Commercial Advancement Committee efforts for the US
  • The Commercial Advancement Committees responsible for determining which products are advanced from R&D to Commercial activities
  • It’s a cross-functional team with representatives from each of the functions that need to sign off before a product can be launched, for instance;
  • ○      Regulatory need state or EPA approvals
  • ○      Supply Chain for COGS
  • ○      Commercial for financial metrics
  • ○      Formulations for shelf life and on seed stability, etc
  • Monitor and progress product launch activities

  • Qualifications

  • 8+ years in relevant roles in the Agriculture Industry:
  • 5+ years of agricultural product / agronomic marketing/management experience
  • Experience with data visualization software preferred
  • Ability to travel as needed (20% +/-)
  • BS in a scientific field – Agronomy preferred
  • MBA/advanced degree preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead creation of a product as well as leading a go-to-market strategy for the product
