In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, we have launched a new service, Concentric by Ginkgo, to drive Ginkgo’s biosecurity efforts. Initially focused on testing platforms, Concentric is the largest provider of K–12 testing and border monitoring for infectious disease in the United States. We currently run state-level K–12 testing programs in ten states and in some of the nation’s largest school districts, and have launched initial airport monitoring programs with the CDC.
As a Director of Business Development, you will focus on work enabling both our Cell Engineering and Concentric businesses, and you will be a core part of the Commercial team at Ginkgo as we scale. The synthetic biology ecosystem is rapidly growing globally, and Ginkgo has recently developed new partnerships in Europe and Africa. We are currently considering other global opportunities.
In Australia, we are actively exploring opportunities in the Australian market for both cell engineering and biosecurity services. Your initiative, entrepreneurship and teamwork will shine as you adapt Ginkgo’s offerings to meet customer needs. By developing and driving relationships with key accounts and running delivery of our service, you will expand relationships into lasting partnerships. As issues arise, you will find creative solutions and ensure customer success — learning from each customer and flowing this thinking back into service development. Your role will be varied and high-impact, and you will lead Ginkgo’s efforts to build partnerships with commercial entities in Australia, particularly those in the pharmaceutical and biotech, food and agriculture, and mining and bioremediation/recycling arenas. For all efforts, outreach to and engagement with Australian State and Federal government partners, state and local organizations, and the Australian synbio ecosystem will be key.   • Develop and convert customer pipeline, including identification of new opportunities within and across customer segments in conjunction with Marketing
  • Launch key accounts in Australia
  • Plan scale up and drive operational excellence with individual customers,  developing key accounts through strong stakeholder management, a broad understanding of testing strategies, and detailed planning
  • Lead account strategy development with Commercial partners for synthetic biology, identifying new opportunities and partners in the Australian commercial sector, with an early focus on pharma, biodefense, and sustainability
  • Serve as the liaison between Business Development (BD) and the Foundry and Program/Service Development teams during the partnering process
  • Lead account strategy development for Australian state-level biosurveillance and large district COVID-19 testing programs
  • Bring those customers onto the Ginkgo cell engineering platform — this will require assessment of customer needs and development of project plans -— in conjunction with our technical team 
  • Coordinate with the Partnership and Policy Team around bilateral or multilateral programs/policies/funding
  • Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years experience in a relevant industry
  • Preferred Capabilities and Experience

  • MBA or relevant Masters degree, preferred
  • Work experience in Business Development, Consulting, or Operations
  • Experience in Synthetic Biology, Pharmaceutical Discovery or Development, Biotechnology (preferably with a Pharma focus)
  • Diagnostics experience preferred but not required
  • Observed and demonstrated success as a business development lead
  • Experience leading research projects or participating in research projects a plus
  • Government experience, either in government agencies or active business development within the government, preferred
