The R&D team at Eat Just is looking for a motivated, hands-on Fermentation Engineer to optimize recombinant protein production in microbial hosts at the bench scale. This role will be responsible for developing and optimizing fermentation processes to produce proteins for applications in food products.

What You’ll do

  • Plan, execute, and analyze bench-scale experiments for recombinant protein production in microbial hosts
  • Drive improvements in key process performance indicators including titer, yield, and efficiency in fermentation.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and optimize bioreactors
  • Evaluate and establish protein expression potential of engineered strains
  • Interface with contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs) for technology transfer and scale-up.
  • Maintain and fix fermentation equipment as needed. Provide input on new equipment purchases
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Protein Chemistry, Strain Development and Analytical teams.
  • Summarize and report data and method development efforts in writing and present workin collaborative meetings with other R&D groups
  • Maintenance of notebook records, sample databases, standard operating procedures,and other documentation
  • Perform additional laboratory duties as required to support R&D and company projects

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemistry or a related field; PhD with 1+ years, MS with 5+ years, or BS with 8+ years
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in operating and optimizing fermentation processes at bench scale
  • Experienced in fermentation processes to produce recombinant proteins in yeast and fungal hosts including Pichia, Aspergillus, Trichoderma and/or other related hosts;
  • Experience with setup, operation and troubleshooting of bioreactor systems
  • Knowledge of metabolic pathways and its correlation to fermentation performance is a plus.
  • Ability to effectively capture and communicate data and results;
  • Ability to work independently with strong critical thinking, time management and organizational skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail, ability to maintain accurate records, and an affinity fortrouble shooting;
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, diverse, and fast-paced environment;

Additional Information & Requirements

This is a regular full-time role reporting to our headquarters in Alameda, CA.

This position will be expected to be 100% onsite.
