Ecovative is a fast-paced dynamic company creating next-generation materials through indoor mushroom cultivation. Our mission is to grow better materials in a more sustainable way. The team is using groundbreaking mushroom technology to develop and manufacture different food and materials for an assortment of commercial and industrial applications. The Food Safety Associate is responsible for helping to ensure that all food manufactured by Ecovative is safe. The role will support the food safety program to ensure that all food grown at Ecovative is completely and consistently safe and meets or exceeds all federal and state guidelines, including agricultural (USDA / mGAP) and food processing (FDA / GMP) guidelines as appropriate.

ECOVATIVE FOOD SAFETY ASSOCIATES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING:

  • Review all production batch records.

  • Perform preparation and sampling for the environmental monitoring program for the production facility.

  • Oversee air sampling by production operators for all scales of Pilot Operations.

  • Ensure provision of adequate supplies of protective clothing and footwear for production entrance vestibules.

  • Ensure verification of adequate cleaning by reviewing the appropriate records and conducting frequent observations.

  • Manage the sampling of panels from production for shipping to Eurofins laboratory for testing.

  • Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) working closely with the Operations people doing the work.

  • Review SOPs in line with FDA CFRs and Ecovative’s best practices.

  • Assist with follow-up on Corrective Actions when requested by the Quality department and document completion.

  • Work closely with the Quality and Safety team.

  • Utilize an ATP meter and/ or air contact plates for monitoring when directed.

  • Collaborate with Operations and Engineering on continuous improvements to Ecovative’s Food Safety Program, processes, and facility.

  • Support the ongoing development of a Food Safety culture at Ecovative following the lead of the Quality and Safety Department.

  • Stay abreast of best practices in Food Safety, attending relevant training and seminars in the field.

  • Provide support to Food Safety to ensure all certification requirements are met.

  • Other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Experience working in GAP, GHP, GMP certified environments.

  • Have practical experience of basic plant sanitation.

  • Possess a basic understanding of Food Microbiology.

  • Experience with HACCP and HARPC.

  • Exceptional organization, documentation, and communication skills.

  • Must be a strong collaborator who is comfortable interacting with operations personnel and management when needed.

  • Actively represent food safety with production and other department personnel.

  • Positive and adaptable, comfortable working with ambiguous datasets and chipping away at a large problem one small productive step at a time, seeking support when needed.

  • Must have strong computer skills and the ability to build and maintain clear and functional documentation for regulatory compliance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, preferred food science, biology, chemistry, or microbiology.

  • 3-5 years full-time work experience.
