At C16 Biosciences, we believe that palm oil doesn’t have to be a problem. Our team is building a sustainable and environmentally-friendly alternative to “conflict palm oil,” which relies on tropical rainforest deforestation and emits over 1 billion tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. C16 Bio’s technology platform harnesses naturally-occurring biological processes, improved by the latest innovations in strain engineering, fermentation, and low-cost lipid extraction to produce a better kind of palm oil.
As the Head of Marketing, you will guide and drive a robust marketing strategy for C16 as we begin to introduce our platform and product solutions to the world. We are building an activist brand that enables consumers worldwide to buy products that align with their values: products that are good for human health and planetary health. You will identifying and build community with these key consumer groups, creating and supporting platforms for mission-aligned actions and activism. You will develop refine, implement and bring to life our brand and positioning. You will define and roll out key company narratives across audiences and platforms. You will build a movement and you will bring the solution for sustainable ingredients to life.
As an early team member, you will play a critical role in shaping our company and brand mission, personality, positioning, and values. You’ll also help us rapidly grow a team that can scale and build that company, starting in personal care but moving quickly into other market verticals as well. This position is integral to the success of our ambitious goal of solving the palm oil problem.
This role will be based in New York, NY. We offer relocation support. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and implement an integrated marketing strategy for C16 based on our brand mission and positioning.
  • Effectively communicate marketing strategy to key stakeholders – the team, board of directors, key brand partners, investors, and more
  • Create a content strategy that positions c16 as a trusted brand. Create and manage content operations, budget, and production both internally and externally.
  • Bring to life the company’s image, personality and value proposition, creating interest and excitement with key target audiences
  • Hire and manage creative team (combination of internal and agencies) to develop content and assets supporting campaigns, experiential marketing, media planning, and social media objectives.
  • Define and execute our social media and community strategy, with a focus on building awareness of the problem and brand with early adopter audiences.
  • Oversee paid and unpaid marketing, including social media influencer engagements SEO, and events strategy.
  • Identify strategic partnerships that support our mission and movement, introduce the brand to new audiences, and enable long-term goals.
  • Build and manage a team of A players across marketing communications, content strategy, creative, product marketing, PR, social, events, conference participation, community growth and more, ensuring brand consistency, and high-quality content produced on time

  • Comfortable with ambiguity, with a bias toward solutions
  • Looking to bring your creativity and technical chops to a company focused on reversing climate change and building products that are good for human health and planetary health 
  • Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in consumer goods
  • Experience in mission-based marketing preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing; MBA a plus
  • Track record of taking bold ideas into execution
  • Leadership, strategic and management experience in a technical organization
  • Experience managing teams and developing high-potential talent
  • Experience with budget and P&L management
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
