Internships are available at Project Chimps in Georgia, which provides lifetime care to former research chimpanzees in a sanctuary on 236-acres of forested land in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Facilities interns (click to view expanded position description) will gain experience performing various facility maintenance duties alongside the staff at a chimpanzee sanctuary. The intern will assess the utilities of the facilities and make recommendations for reducing energy.
Some specific internship responsibilities include:
- Perform inspections of the sanctuary
- Assist in preventative and reactive maintenance needs of the sanctuary
- Resident interns complete a weekly shift cleaning and tending to the intern residence
- Attend weekly meetings with supervisor and/or mentor
- Identify and develop an independent project

Internships last from 12 weeks to 6 months, up to 40 hours per week. On-site housing may be available for interns committing to at least 32 hours per week, and will be discussed after receipt of the application. The center will provide opportunities to travel into town with staff or volunteers for weekly grocery shopping. International interns are solely responsible for obtaining any required visas.
Interns must pass a criminal background check and sign a waiver and release of liability.
