Lab Assistant I 70 views

Eat Just is looking for an energetic and highly organized individual to support daily laboratory operations within the company. With inputs from the Cross-functional R&D groups, the successful candidate will play a vital role in the overall organization of the laboratory and the management of daily operations. The Lab Assistant II will partner with our Lab Operations manager to take responsibility for all aspects of the lab, including but not limited to instruments/equipment maintenance and calibration, maintaining of supplies needed to ensure the lab runs smoothly and receiving and shipping of biological material.

What you’ll do

  • Support issues in the lab and respond to delegated facilities tickets and tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Support projects to improve lab space, organization, procedures, etc.
  • Work with our Lab Operations Supervisor and larger Facilities Team to implement procedures for handling, storing, safekeeping and removing hazardous materials;
  • Oversees use of laboratory supplies and ensure all reagents, SDS, and supplies are organized and available when needed;
  • Promote a culture of safety support all safety initiatives, lab safety programs; interface with cross-functional groups and ensure healthy and safety protocol is consistently adhered to;
  • Ensure all instrumentations/equipment is functioning and properly maintained;
  • Works closely with Facilities Team to write and implement SOPs for use of equipment;
  • Coordinate ordering and receiving supplies and biological materials for Eat Just Departments;
  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment;
  • Assist in Removing and installing high pressure gas cylinders and dewars;
  • Manual washing and stocking lab glassware;
  • Operate sterilizers and dishwashers;
  • Monitor and distribute RODI (Reverse Osmosis Deionized) water as needed;
  • Prepare and distribute buffers;
  • Ensure proper labelling and storage of chemical and biological wastes;
  • Provide cross-coverage and support for larger facilities team as needed;
  • Support local, state, and federal regulations to maintain safety compliance;
  • Partake routine laboratory inspections;
  • Maintain training, and calibration records;
  • Maintain lab inventory, materials, equipment; coordinate daily consumable supply stocking and ordering;
  • Partake in vendor supply relationships; organize and participate in vendor negotiations;
  • Interfaces with employee health and safety and acts as a liaison between departments and the scientific staff to ensure safety compliance;
  • Provides assistant to purchasing and other functional areas;
  • Assist in tracking procedures, establishment and maintenance of service contracts and warranties with vendors;
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing of general instrumentation;
  • Support in HQ relocation project by maintaining lab equipment inventory updates, maintaining chemical inventory and support the move planning process.

What you’ll bring

  • B.A. and/or B.S. preferably in Biological Sciences or related field and/or equivalent relevant experience;
  • 2-3+ year in a laboratory operation role is a plus;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a white-glove customer service mentality; you are a collaborative people person and able to effectively work and interface with cross-functional team members;
  • Valid Drivers license;
  • Roll-up your sleeves, can-do attitude;
  • High level of written, verbal, and analytical problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills;
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and associated deadlines;
  • Ability to pass a standard background check.

Additional Information & Requirements

This is a full-time position based out of Headquarters in San Francisco with an anticipated relocation to our new Alameda office in February 2022.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift to 50 pounds and is frequently required to work standing for extended periods of time as well as climb stairs/ladders and elevated work platforms.
