Summary: The Manager, Accounting & Finance maintains accounting records and internal controls, prepares timely financial statements on a monthly basis, and manages the day-to-day accounting functions of the organization. They are responsible for compliance with oversight agency requirements, completing select journal entries and overseeing the month close process, and supporting the annual audit and budget processes. Working with the Director of Finance, the Accounting & Finance Manager will lead efforts to document and update department procedures and recommend process improvements. This position reports to the Director of Finance. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development and monitoring of the organization’s operating budget, including forecasting future income and expenses.
  • Assists in the development of grant budgets and tracking personnel allocations.
  • Develops and maintains a system for managing fixed assets.
  • Oversees adherence to internal control policies.
  • Manages the month-end close process overseeing the preparation of select journal entries;
  • Monitors operating cash and makes recommendations for cash transfers; updates rolling cash flow.
  • Oversees payroll administration, including ensuring the accuracy of reconciliation of select accounts; inventory adjustments, retail store income, merchandise usage adjustments; general ledger review and coding corrections; and functional allocation entries.
  • Oversees and supports the preparation and filing of periodic sales and occupancy tax reports.
  • Oversees year-end close and acts as primary contact for completing the annual financial audit, including preparing various schedules as needed (oversight and support provided by Director of Finance).
  • Leads the effort to document accounting policies and procedures, flow charts, standard operating procedures; and recommends process improvements.
  • Liaises with the Development Operations team to ensure accurate data flow between the donor database and accounting functions.
  • Produces various financial and accounting reports, including but not limited to department and organization budget to actuals, financial statements, and grant reporting.
  • Supports the Director of Finance with various analyses (variances, spending trends, etc.)
  • Prepares 1099-MISC reporting for recipients and IRS.
  • Trains and supervises staff on fiscal procedures, software and budget management.
  • Special projects as assigned 

Experience & Attributes:

  • College courses through Intermediate Accounting highly desired; a degree or certificate in Accounting, Finance, Economic, Business or Public Administration strongly preferred. 
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role / similar job functions with leadership responsibility that encompassed both fiscal and administrative duties.
  • Experience with QuickBooks online, Bill.com and Tallie strongly preferred (or similar software)
  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to work with/learn GoogleSheets (Google equivalent of Excel).
  • Strong understanding and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Ability to translate detailed information and utilize advanced spreadsheet reporting tools to enhance and simplify analysis.
  • Ability to communicate in an effective and flexible manner, multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of the nonprofit sector and related issues preferred.

Job Specifications:

  • This is a full-time, exempt position.
  • This position is based remotely. 
  • The salary range is $70,000-80,000,  commensurate with experience.
