Required Qualifications

  • MS in a Food Science and 2 years of experience, or BS in Food Science and 4 years of experience
  • Research background in protein chemistry and functionality to understand and be able to direct administrative work of the center
  • Protein related analytical skills
  • At least one year of experience in program and research management
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Must be proficient in website management
  • Must be able to work independently, managing priorities and urgency, with emphasis on precision and timeliness
  • Experience in event planning

  • Budgeting experience
  • Demonstrated organizational and oral/written communication skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Supervisory skills

Responsibilities

  • Oversee management of PPIC research projects, including, but not limited to, drafting of project proposals, timelines, and budgets, training research personnel, and preparing and delivering updates and reports for funding party (25%)
  • Actively conduct and participate in independent and team research projects in the protein space (15%)
  • Draft Center RFPs in line with the Center’s priorities, formulate evaluation rubrics, and coordinate proposal review to aid in funding efforts (10%)
  • Oversee and develop research budgets and PPIC accounts and prepare quarterly reports to inform members of financial status (5%)
  • Collaborate with pilot plant team for scale-up of protein extraction and company research needs (5%)
  • Create promotional  materials  for  the  Center  on  an  as-needed  basis  and  represent program to internal and external partners (5%)
  • Manage and conduct member relations and communications in a timely, helpful, and personable fashion (20%)
  • Plan and execute annual meetings, workshops and training programs (10%)
  • Maintain and update PPIC website (5%)

Program/Unit Description

Position will be in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, CFANS, University of Minnesota under the supervision of Dr. Pam Ismail.
