Hooray Foods is on a mission to combat climate change, enhance the world’s ecosystems, and prevent animal suffering, all by providing people around the world with delicious food that gives them the same experience and joy as eating animal products – Hooray!!

Our first product is a plant-based bacon that looks, handles, and tastes almost like the real thing. We just launched at Whole Foods nationwide where it’s been selling fast, and we have other retailers lined up after them to sell our bacon in 2021.

We are looking for a manufacturing engineer based out of Central Illinois (Decatur/Urbana/Champaign/Bloomington/Springfield) who is excited to put their skills to use in a revolutionary field with novel products.  You will evaluate, troubleshoot and improve on current processes, equipment, and machinery. You’ll also work collaboratively with R&D, equipment vendors, engineering firms, and manufacturing sites.

This is a great opportunity to work in a hot new space, work on novel production processes, while applying your existing skills and talents.

Main Responsibilities

  • Improving the performance of current and new equipment for different plant based product

  • Quickly able to optimize plant scale processes and equipment.

  • Help commission new equipment at pilot and plant scale

  • Work with process engineering, engineering firms, vendors and manufacturing facilities to increase scale, quality and employ engineering/manufacturing methodologies

  • Act as the primary liaison between Hooray and the Plant, manage relationship, monitor production

  • Manage any external vendors related to production equipment, materials, packaging

  • Solve the emergencies that arise during production with the plant, temporarily, then permanently

  • Ensure quality with plant/corporate quality, and that unit operations are process capable to deliver that quality

  • Travel will be required to support production and equipment FAT

    • Position is hybrid WFH/Travel and at least 50% at production facility (2 weeks a month)

    • Travel and plant support will change over time as needed (flexibility required)

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excitement for the chance to improve manufacturing to help our mission combating climate change

  • Be willing to relocate to Central Illinois (Decatur/Urbana/Champaign/Bloomington/Springfield)

  • A passion for improving overall equipment efficiency and delivering yields and quality

  • A degree in Industrial Engineering, Biological Systems/Agricultural/Food Engineering or Chemical Engineering preferred. Other degrees may be acceptable if the candidate has a proven track record and experience with manufacturing, specifically CPG food or pharmaceuticals.

  • Experience with RCA, Lean, Six Sigma, SPC, TPM, Kaizen, 5S, FMEA, Safety and Ergonomics

  • Demonstrated ability to lead manufacturing projects in the CPG industry – including equipment testing, process, environmental health & safety, and quality control. Strong candidates will have pharmaceutical and/or food industry experience. Commercialization experience is preferred, but not required.

  • Understands food safety rules or be willing to learn (HACCP, SQF, GMP, FSMA)

  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills along with organization

  • Strong teamwork skills to work with team members from different departments either in person or from manufacturing facility or third party engineering firms

  • Kindness for themselves and others
