Ecovative’s Mushroom® Packaging team is seeking an Operations Engineer with exceptional  mechanical, maintenance, project management, and fabrication skills to join our team. 

Ideal candidates will have to be comfortable in a fluid environment with a variety of tasks and  are excited to tackle new and interesting challenges daily. We are seeking an individual who is  a strong team player with ability to complete independent fabrication projects and take  ownership of regular equipment maintenance activities.

Mushroom® Packaging’s Operations Engineer will: 

  • Identify problems and implement solutions, from inception to installation. 
  • Design solutions for equipment and operational processes. 
  • Be enthusiastic about receiving feedback / requests from the team about ideas for  upgrades, improvements, or maintenance. 
  • Drive continuous improvement of equipment innovation and machinery modifications. 
  • Design customer equipment OEM packages 
  • Lead automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency. 
  • Lead Cost Engineering activities. 
  • Support technology transfer to licensees and partners. 
  • Draft documentation on new and existing equipment, including technical drawings. 
  • Work with machine operators to identify and implement improvements to  machines/processes. 
  • Be comfortable with Identifying equipment needs (e.g. HVAC, power, etc) and  maintaining continuous operation. 
  • Work with contractors to specify, install, or repair systems. 
  • Build a schedule for preventive maintenance. 
  • Organize, improve, and take pride in the upkeep of shop tools and hardware.
  • Take ownership of vendor and engineering project management. 
  • Support with additional activities as assigned, including, but not limited to: 
  • Support with production operations to better understand equipment needs and  improvement/increased efficiency opportunities. 
  • General improvements to the facility, including facilities maintenance. 
  • Identifying and driving operational efficiencies.

Required skills: 

  • Excellent engineering and mechanical skills. 
  • Excellent technical communications skills. 
  • Ability to work with both co-workers and outside consultants to solve technical issues. 
  • Hands-on fabrication experience. 
  • Machining and welding competency. 
  • Experience with gearboxes / AC motors / manufacturing machinery. 
  • Vendor and project management experience 
  • Ability to move from concept to fabrication to installation on technical projects. 
  • Ability to perform regular maintenance on building systems (boilers, HVAC, Air  Compressors, etc). 
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles and troubleshooting. 
  • Computer literacy, familiarity with a variety of stock material and equipment vendors  locally and online. 
  • Experience reading/writing technical documentation. 
  • Ability to stay organized and manage multiple task requests. 
  • Comfortable in a self-starting, pro-active environment 
  • Committed to safety. 

Desired Skills: 

  • Experience with TPM and/or Lean Manufacturing. 
  • Larger project management skills including ability to manage contractors. 
  • Experience with HVAC and building control systems. 
  • CAD/CAM experience. 
  • Stainless Steel TIG welding and fabrication for sanitary or food grade manufacturing  experience. 

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering with at least five (5) years working in an  operational engineering capacity or in a traditional mechanical engineering role with a  minimum of two (2) years of operations engineering.
