Outreach & Special Events Intern 787 views

The Outreach Department at Catskill Animal Sanctuary is responsible for raising awareness of the organization’s emergency rescue work and innovative educational programs, increasing stakeholder engagement, and overseeing special fundraising and educational events, including Cocktails & Cow Tales; our annual fundraiser in New York City; Shindig, our onsite summer festival; and Gobble & Groove, our onsite Thanksgiving-season celebration. Interns provide support in a variety of ways.Note: This is an unpaid position.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Representing the Sanctuary at vegan/vegetarian food festivals, animal rights and environmental conferences, and other networking events
  • Helping to plan and execute on- and off-site special events
  • Assisting with research projects and data entry
  • Delivering Sanctuary literature to community centers, libraries, cafes, yoga studios, vet clinics, and other locations
  • Performing other tasks and duties, as needed

Qualifications:

  • Ability to skillfully communicate the philosophy and mission of Catskill Animal Sanctuary
  • Knowledge of the sentience and suffering of farmed animals, and the benefits of vegan living
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with other interns, volunteers and staff
  • Excellent research skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Outgoing, friendly and personable
  • Enjoy interacting with diverse groups of people
  • Available to work a minimum of 10 hours a week, possibly including some weekends and evenings, for a minimum of 8 weeks

Animal Caregiver Intern

The Animal Care department at Catskill Animal Sanctuary is responsible for the overall health and well-being of our animal residents. Interns in this department are crucial to the daily functioning of the Sanctuary. From cleaning stalls, barns and shelters to grooming, feeding and watering the animals, interns work daily with our Animal Care team to provide life-enriching care for the hundreds of animals we shelter. This internship provides a unique opportunity to learn the day-to-day operations of a farm sanctuary, as well as the proper care of farmed animals.

Note: This is an unpaid position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning of stalls, barns and shelters
  • Feeding and watering animals
  • Animal grooming
  • Assisting with animal health checks
  • Kitchen tasks, including washing dishes and chopping produce
  • Laundry
  • Restocking of farm supplies, including straw, hay and shavings
  • Other tasks and duties, as needed

Qualifications:

  • Willing and able to care for, learn about and engage with our animal residents
  • Understand the philosophy and mission of Catskill Animal Sanctuary
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and meet animal care schedules
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with other interns, volunteers and staff
  • Ability to perform physical labor and repeated lifting, up to 50 pounds
  • Flexibility and openness to a multitude of tasks
  • Available to work a minimum of 16 hours per week for a minimum of 2 months
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, including hot, cold, rain, and snow
