Our mission is to make biology easier to engineer. Ginkgo is constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe’s growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more. Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms.
In recent months, we’ve been inspired and heartened by the tremendous public health response to COVID-19, and recognize that a similar scale of effort is needed by the biotech community to find long-term solutions to this crisis.  In particular, testing is essential in order to resume our daily rhythms:  communities need testing to reunite their people and culture.  Businesses need testing to reopen their offices and provide confidence to their teams and stakeholders.  And schools need testing to be able to reconvene their campuses and research communities.  To respond to this acute and widespread need for COVID-19 testing, Ginkgo has developed a SARS-CoV-2 screening service – Concentric by Ginkgo – that is designed to provide broader access to COVID-19 diagnostic testing solutions.  We’re building increased Foundry capacity to support high rates of testing frequency for our clients, offering an end-to-end, onsite testing service designed to test large communities of individuals.  Performed at high-scale and high-throughput, this additional testing capacity will be essential for organizations, institutions, and companies to be able to reconvene their teams and reopen their communities.
Within the People Operations (PO) team, we propel Ginkgo’s mission and efforts by helping to create the most effective team of GMO engineers the world has ever seen. Ginkgoneans are free to unleash their creative energies on engineering biology because we create a vibrant, supportive, and flexible environment where they can thrive.
We’re honored to be a trusted resource for all of Ginkgo, and are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic People Operations (HR) Business Partner to join our team.  In this contract role, you will provide strategic and tactical guidance for Concentric by Ginkgo, working closely with People Operations and Clinical Operations leadership to support our large-scale COVID-19 testing service. Specifically, you will oversee all of Concentric’s recruiting, onboarding, training, performance management, employee relations, policy/procedures creation and implementation, and compliance. This leadership role will be critical to the success of Ginkgo’s diagnostic operations platform.

In this role, you will:

  • Gain a comprehensive business understanding of the people needs of the Concentric by Ginkgo program, and work closely with department leads to make sure those needs are met.
  • Partner with the People Operations Recruiting function to oversee contractor recruiting and manage external staffing partnerships. Ultimately, take full responsibility for recruiting and hiring the workforce needed for our diagnostic operations platform.
  • Drive the development, evaluation, and monitoring of our onboarding program, and participate in the hands-on management of weekly onboarding sessions to ensure success.
  • Understand the training and development needs of our Clinical Operations team in order to design and implement an interactive and effective training program for this organization.
  • Oversee the creation of a performance management program, including regularly scheduled performance reviews, for the Clinical Operations team, as well as supporting and training of supervisors to implement it.
  • Collaborate with People Operations on employee relations activities, including investigations, employee terminations, and advising of managers on interpreting policies and providing guidance.
  • Work closely with department leads to build and manage a “comprehensive people plan” to meet the long-term needs of the Concentric by Ginkgo program.
  • Provide guidance to leaders and managers by offering thoughtful coaching/mentoring.
  • Who you are:

  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, plus 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • You have solid experience in a self-aware HR Business Partner role, with an incredible ability to build trusting and productive relationships.
  • You enjoy and have expertise in developing, executing, and maintaining new HR projects and programs to meet company needs.
  • You leverage a collaborative approach with outstanding listening skills and the ability to manage through influence.
  • You have a proven track record of delivering premium results and working with multiple stakeholders in a prioritized and systematic way to help solve complex business issues with effective HR, People, and Talent solutions
  • You are a quick-learning self-starter who is comfortable jumping into a new situation and making a difference.
  • You pay rapt attention to detail and enjoy variety in your job.
  • You are a strong communicator (written and spoken) and are able to work graciously with a wide range of people.
  • You are great at diagnosing problems using your critical thinking skills and then devising innovative solutions.
  • You are highly adaptable to changing priorities and can adeptly pivot to meet emerging needs in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are able to apply the highest level of confidentiality regarding team member and candidate records.
  • You have a strong passion and drive for Ginkgo’s mission.
