Pilot Plant Technician 128 views

As a Pilot Plant Technician, you will be a member of our Process Science Team, supporting cross functional teams, help run the Pilot plant operation with a focus on CIP-sanitation and in process analysis. This is a unique opportunity to work side-by-side with talented chemists, process engineers, molecular biologists and culinary chefs at a cutting-edge food technology company on one of our newest product platforms.  

What you’ll do 

  • Perform all assigned activities and job tasks as directed by supervisor in a safe and efficient manner to meet or exceed daily safety, quality, food safety, and production goals. 
  • Follow company established Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures. Immediately report unsafe acts or conditions to his/her supervisor and takes immediate interim steps to avoid injury. 
  • Set-up, operate and clean food-processing equipment.  
  • Maintain equipment in good sanitary and working condition. Maintain a safe, clean and sanitary work area.  
  • Support preventative maintenance, calibrations, preparations, operating and perform routine CIP operation on all pilot plant processing and testing equipment.  
  • The ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures and instructions 
  • Perform routine and non-routine cleaning of specific pieces of equipment, buildings, and site. 
  • Travel as required for plant startups within US and internationally. 24 hr. shift coverage required as needed to successfully support plant trial execution. 
  • Flexibility in working hours as project/trials rotate according to priority and product demand. 
  • Develop basic trouble shooting skills to resolve process related deviations and problems. 
  • Record observations, collect and prepare data for further analysis, prepare basic lab reports under guidance from Engineers.  
  • Attend weekly pilot meeting and be an active participant in discussions with team members. 

What you’ll bring 

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required, associate degree in Process Technology or similar is a plus! 
  • 2+ years of experience working in a laboratory, pilot plant setting preferably in food industry; 
  • You’re hardworking, self-motivated with an innate ability to “roll with the punches” in a fast-moving, fast-growing, start-up environment; 
  • You have a “hands on” mentality with a positive attitude and willingness to learn; 
  • Knowledge of sanitation, CIP and COP procedures as well as handling and dispensing of hazardous chemicals; 
  • Ability to use and operate basic analytical equipment – pH meters, ovens, scales, centrifuges; 
  • You’re a team player with good communication skills both oral and written; 
  • Basic math and problem-solving skills required; 
  • Basic computer skills especially in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and can learn new systems. 

Additional Information & Requirements 

This is a regular full-time role reporting to our headquarters in Alameda, CA. This position will be expected to be 100% onsite.
