San Carlos, CA
Iron Ox is reimagining the modern farm, utilizing robotics and AI to grow fresh, consistent, and responsibly farmed produce for everyone. Our experienced team of growers, plant scientists, engineers, and innovators are passionate about deeply understanding and developing this new wave of technology to feed an ever-growing population.
Our mission at Iron Ox is dedicated to addressing some of the most significant issues in food security, now and in the future. We’re focused on sustainable, scalable food production for a changing climate and an ever-growing population.
As a Product Manager at Iron Ox, you’ll have a unique opportunity to shape the future of automated farming with robots. As the first PM on a growing Product Team, you’ll influence how we do product management at Iron Ox.
We have a unique service design challenge. It spans from our end customer’s journey of purchasing and using our produce in their own home, all the way to the moment seeds are planted in our custom-built greenhouses. Your role will focus on the hardware and software systems in the greenhouse that make the fully automated growing of our plants possible. You’ll gain a deep understanding of how our greenhouses operate, and spot inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement that have a significant impact on our business.
This is a full-time position. Our main HQ is in San Carlos, and we’re very remote friendly. We’re flexible on how much time you’d spend in the office every week, but expect you to occasionally travel to our greenhouse in Gilroy, CA.
What You’ll Do
Identify product opportunities that help us achieve our company goals
Help define and measure key metrics for our produce, the greenhouse, and supporting projects
Own product requirements for our hardware and automation projects, and make sure they’re aligned with our customers’ needs, and our business and sustainability goals
Plan and prioritize project work, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to make sure teams are aligned on product deliverables
Anticipate tactical and strategic risks and work on real solutions with the team before the risks turn into issues to firefight
Make sure the voice of our customers resonates through all aspects of product development
Projects You’d Work on If You Joined Next Week
The “farm brain” – a system that centralizes control and coordination of tasks that our robots need to get done throughout the day
The next major iteration of the robot that moves plant modules between different stations in the greenhouse – how do we make our robots manufacturable at scale, and how do we make sure they’re meeting the increased production goals of our new facility in Texas
An app that lets our head growers and plant scientists track and visualize product yield and demand, and helps them plan for the upcoming week, month and quarter
Find a way for our custom-designed propagation system to scale with new crops
We’d Love to Hear From You If You
Love complex, interconnected system problems
Have experience successfully driving cross-functional projects
Have good decision making instincts, but never forget to balance them out with data analysis and input from our end customers and the rest of your team
Have experience with structuring large projects with many interdependent parts
Are comfortable with ambiguity and are able to independently find your way through the mess to clear and practical next steps without clear direction
Love moving fast and have a scrappy, resourceful attitude to getting things done
Have excellent presentation and writing skills, and can crisply communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences
