As a Project Engineer at Nature’s Fynd, you will be a key member of the Engineering team responsible for leading and executing capital expenditure projects that achieve technical objectives and deliver tangible business results – from design to installation, commissioning, validation, and startup for new manufacturing processes, production equipment, utility / infrastructure systems, and facility buildouts.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering solutions that achieve technical objectives and deliver tangible business results. Actively manage execution of projects including scope development, timelines, resources, budgets, and work breakdown structures (WBS). Lead design reviews and project update meetings, and provide routine project status tracking reports
  • Partner with external consultants, equipment vendors, and contractors to deliver the engineering design packages for new manufacturing assets, laboratories, and facilities, including process flow diagrams (PFD), mass and energy balances (MEB) calculations, equipment sizing and specifications, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), process control descriptions, electrical schematics, and general arrangement drawings (GA). Deliver technically robust solutions at the lowest total cost of ownership
  • Work cross-functionally with Technology and Manufacturing teams, and other internal stakeholders to develop basis of design (BOD), functional requirements, and transfer key process development parameters from laboratory benchtop / pilot plant to industrial scaleup. Collaborate with Procurement team on requests for proposal, bid analysis, and vendor selection
  • Oversee installation contractors, coordinate site construction activities, and review shop drawings, submittals, and requests for information. Develop criteria and perform factory and site acceptance testing, and implement the commissioning, validation, and startup plans
  • Provide technical support for the continuous improvement of existing production systems and manufacturing processes. Propose recommendations for optimizing performance and reducing operating costs through upgrades, modifications, or operating changes
  • Role Requirements:

  • 5+ years of progressive project engineering experience in food, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or fine / specialty chemical industries
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (preferred) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • Strong competency in the engineering fundamentals, and knowledge of multiple equipment technologies, utility systems, and unit operations in fermentation and food processing
  • Experience with hygienic design and construction, good manufacturing practices (GMP) and cleaning, sanitization, and sterilization processes (i.e., 3A, EHEDG, ASME BPE)
  • Knowledgeable of total installed cost (TIC) estimating principles and grasp of key technical / economic drivers of capital (CapEx) and operating (OpEx) expenses
  • Knowledgeable of industry standards, and local, state, and federal regulations in environmental, health and safety (i.e., OSHA, EPA, etc.), and food safety / quality (i.e., FDA, USDA, SQF, etc.)
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Front-End Loading / Stage-Gate engineering project management practices
  • Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Bluebeam
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
