Beyond Meat is seeking an experienced Purchasing Technician to join the team at Headquarters in El Segundo, CA. The ideal candidate has strong organization and time management skills, with a positive growth mindset. The candidate should be solution-driven, creative in problem solving, and good service skills to collaborate with different departments and leadership. The role will focus on purchasing supplies, products or materials which will support Innovation’s operations. Duties include but are not limited to maintaining good relationships with Suppliers, Vendors or Wholesalers, performing market research to get the best deals for the company and ensure timely delivery of products and materials, placing orders for products based on current inventory needs, and tracking shipments from vendors to the company warehouse.
Keeps up with Order requests from staff via Quartzy
Order urgent supplies in a timely manner
Communicate order status updates via Quartzy and Slack to Innovation staff
Perform vendor research and selection to enhance profitability, reducing operating costs and boosting efficiency
Manage POs, confirmation numbers, tracking numbers, shipping schedules, and any delays or back ordered items in Quartzy system and R&D Purchasing email; maintain purchase records
Liaising with Accounting department to onboard new vendors
Monitor available credit and develop flexible budgets for teams within Innovation that utilize Innovation accounts outside of typical Purchasing workflow (i.e. Culinary and Administrative)
Ensures appropriate supplies are ordered in conjunction with Lab Manager, EHS, and Facilities
Using quarterly and annual data to determine purchasing needs
Handles returns of unneeded items
Reinforce Purchasing procedures specified in related SOPs
Update internal catalog used by staff of standardized laboratory supplies based on pricing and availability of the items
Compare vendors based on pricing, availability, and other factors
Maintain cordial working relationships with vendors and supervising vendor activities
Negotiate pricing with vendors for regularly ordered items (including recurring orders)
Develop relationships with sales representatives to allow for sourcing difficult to find products
Work with vendors to resolve any shipping issues that arise
Maintain communication with Beyond Meat Legal team and vendors regarding T&C on rentals and other supplies as needed
QUALIFICATIONS – Education, Technical Skills, and/or Previous Experience
High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate Degree or BSc in Logistics, Purchase and Supply, Business Administration or related fields are preferred
At least two years of experience in a purchasing position; one or more years of experience purchasing supplies in a laboratory setting
Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, and communication (both written and verbal) skills
Strong organizational skills, a good understanding of sourcing, and the ability to maintain vendor relationships
Work with warehouse staff and Inventory Technician to compare deliveries with purchase orders to identify discrepancies
Ability to work with minimal supervision
NetSuite experience is a plus, but not required; Experience using purchasing software required
Experience working with laboratory operations is a plus
Direct experience with spreadsheet computer applications; Mastery of Excel and Google Suite tools
Position requires the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods, climb, kneel, bend, and consistently lift to 50 lbs.
Pilot and factory scale environments
Assist in maintaining Receiving shelf with Receiving Team to assure any abandoned or unknown items are distributed appropriately.
