Scientist, Process Sciences 60 views

We are looking for Scientist to join our core R&D team essential to the scientific growth of our company. You will be a member of our Process Sciences Team, responsible for the process development of new food ingredients and products. You will be involved in developing the process conditions to achieve purified protein/starch that have the functionality and economics to include in our food products and the scale up of new processes. You’ll partner with our lab, pilot plant and manufacturing teams to continue building out processes and join a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and chefs in the search for better, healthier, and more sustainable ways to produce food.

What You’ll do 

  • Work with the R&D team to develop technologies for generation of protein isolates of interest and purified starch
  • Develop lab scale unit operations, processes and apply existing/new separation techniques for efficient protein and starch recovery
  • Independently develop bench scale assays and execute experiments
  • Translate lab scale assays and processes to demonstrable pilot scale experiments
  • Analyze and interpret heterogeneous datasets generated by a unique technology platform that combines engineering, biochemistry, and food science
  • Collaborate extensively with engineers and food scientists to translate scientific questions into testable hypotheses and draw appropriate inferences from experimental results
  • Provide statistical support for the design and interpretation of experiments
  • Write reports and maintain up to date lab notebook for good data practices

What You’ll bring 

  • PhD with 0-2 years or M.S with 4+ years in Chemical Engineering, Bioprocessing, Biotechnology or related subject of industrial lab or pilot scale experience for processing protein/starch containing plant products
  • Protein and/or starch process development experience and background knowledge in protein/starch biochemistry is preferred
  • Proven experience in developing lab scale assays, executing complex experimental plans and data interpretation
  • Enthusiastic about exploring complex datasets and thinking rigorously about scientific phenomena
  • Excellent project management skills – ability to work on multiple projects and maintain deadlines
  • Ability to develop robust processes through integration of equipment and operations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal
  • Mission-driven, self-directed and enthusiastic about collaborating with an inter-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers
  • Ability to pass a standard background check

Additional Information & Requirements  

This is a full-time role based out of our Headquarters in Alameda, CA.

This role requires the ability to travel without restriction both domestically and internationally 15-20% of the time and possess a passport or ability to do so.
