Position

Responsibilities
Design, prepare and execute application tests for a variety of plant-based food products
Provide technical support to the Food Science, Culinary team, Science team and Marketing team members
Assist in generating new product ideas and recipes, conduct application trials, prepare prototypes, troubleshoot existing formulas to optimize cost savings and production performance and perform appropriate tests/evaluations as needed
Perform and implement various tests including sensory and analytical on finished products and fat-based solutions
Contribute toward preparation of Mission Barns products for tastings
Prepare oral and written reports for all product development/application activities Develop and modify SOP’s for new and existing products
Manage various laboratory equipment in an organized manner, keeping records and SOP’s. Install and analyze test equipment
Maintain a neat and clean laboratory area and ensure functionality of all equipment
Provide technical support to review patents and other intellectual properties
Contribute toward sourcing ingredients and creating relationships with ingredient suppliers
Physical Requirements
Must be able to meet these requirements with or without accommodations:
Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time are common
Exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally may be required
Ability to move up to 50 lbs may occasionally be required
Good manual dexterity for the use of laboratory and common office equipment.
Walking up and down stairs
Working Environment
The job is performed indoors in laboratory, traditional office, and factory settings. Activities include:
Extensive bench work and periodically sitting at a computer monitor and/or telephone
Minor traveling including at production sites is required
PPE is required in certain areas of the facility
About You
Degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related discipline (BS, MS, PhD; advanced degree preferred)
3 + years minimum industrial experience in plant-based meat product development and or experience in conventional meat or food product development
A knowledge of fats and oil chemistry, as well as ingredient functionality is desirable
Research experience in plant-based meat and fat emulsion processing preferred
Ability to foster good relations with peers through collaborative problem solving and innovation
Familiarity with FSMA (Food Safety and Modernization Act) is desirable
Good laboratory skills and experience with analytical equipment/methods
Positive, Mission driven attitude, and Great communication skills
