Iron Ox is reimagining the modern farm, utilizing robotics and AI to grow fresh, consistent, and responsibly farmed produce for everyone. Our experienced team of growers, plant scientists, engineers, and innovators are passionate about deeply understanding and developing this new wave of technology to feed an ever-growing population.
Our mission at Iron Ox is dedicated to addressing some of the most significant issues in food security, now and in the future. We’re focused on sustainable, scalable food production for a changing climate and an ever-growing population.
From the development of multiple robot platforms, to our own custom hydroponic, seeding, and harvesting systems, to our data-based farm feedback loop, we are taking a system-level approach to creating the ideal farm. As we continue to develop and scale our robotic greenhouse operations, we want to make sure that the code that operates our systems is user-friendly, structured, well ordered, maintainable, and meets the needs of all of those who depend on it.
As a senior frontend engineer, you will join the software team to help realize our vision for an automated, optimized intelligent farm. As part of our team, you will lead our efforts to architect, design, implement and test features in our frontend as well as mentor other developers. You will play a key role in our efforts to develop, deploy, and maintain production-quality code that controls the robots and surfaces farm information. Some examples of systems you may work on include: controlling and visualizing the robots on the farm map, scheduling and batching farm tasks, visualizing farm KPIs via charts and graphs, and providing diagnostic tools for operations and engineers such as Webviz.
(Some of) What you will do here:
Own, architect, and implement software systems for controlling robots and displaying farm data (for example, live maps and data visualizations)
Improve our software practices by providing guidance thorough architecture designs, design and code reviews
Work with cross-functional teams (backend, robotics, product, data science, grow and operations) to identify and communicate requirements
Integrate and test software with other teams (backend, simulation, and sometimes with physical robots)
Work with and mentor other software engineering team members
Help build an amazing software team by participating in our hiring process
You are an ideal candidate for our team if you value:
Collaboration and consensus-building as patterns for problem-solving
Transparency in the face of ambiguous or difficult situations
“Getting stuff done” through simple, pragmatic iteration and an unwavering focus on product needs
Demonstrating a high level of curiosity and keeping abreast of the latest technologies
Taking a proactive nature to resolve problems
Challenging the status quo, when it makes sense to do so
Working on problems that will make a difference and are core to our mission (climate-change, sustainability, accessibility, plants)
To be successful, you should have:
Worked across a broad-range of problems in the front-end space — more than just forms and tables
Experience writing automated tests
The typical problem-solving and algorithmic experience that one expects in any software engineering role
We do not have degree or time-in-role requirements; rather, we are looking for people who are able to quickly onboard with a supportive engineering team and will be highly motivated to help us execute against aggressive (but not unreasonable) deadlines.
Ability to occasionally commute to our farm in Gilroy
It would make your job easier (but it isn’t required) if you have…
Strong UX and design sensibilities and an interest in sweating the small stuff
Working in 2D/3D environments
An interest in agriculture
