AeroFarms is hiring a Senior Manager of FP&A to lead the company’s budgeting function.

Unique opportunity to take our growing company to the next level! FP&A Manager will have exposure to all parts of the business and will be instrumental in planning and performance management. The role will be responsible for the budgets and forecasts that support executing our business plans, as well as supporting optimization of the internal tools and financial control systems/processes needed to scale AeroFarms as a global platform for controlled-environment agriculture (CEA).

  • FP&A Manager will lead process for development and publication of annual budgets and quarterly reforecasts. The role will collaborate with key stakeholders, for both the upfront creation of budgets/forecasts as well as the ongoing tracking, analysis, and insights to support execution.
  • Budgets/forecasts include AeroFarms’ current commercial indoor vertical farm (located in Newark, NJ); new commercial farms; R&D programs; departments, hiring and other SG&A; etc.; all of which roll up to the level of the consolidated company’s budgets and forecasts.
  • FP&A Manager will report to Director of Corporate Development, who heads the company’s Economic Analysis Group housing the budgeting function as well as all other financial modeling and analysis (supporting overall business strategy and traditional corp dev activities).
  • Ideal candidate has 7+ years working in FP&A role for a growth stage company with ~$10-100 million of revenue, and/or strong background in corporate finance, business planning, budgeting and tracking, and financial controls.
  • FP&A Manager will work closely with hiring manager (above) and Financial Analysts, as well as with CFO, Controller/VP of Finance, department heads (e.g., VP and C-Level team) and other key stakeholders for budgets/forecasts (e.g., project managers).
  • Day-to-day activities will be a mix of detailed primary work and driving processes that require cross-functional collaborations. The desire to “roll up ones sleeves” is essential: the FP&A Manager is expected to do top-quality analyst-level work and to provide manager-level project leadership and business insights.
  • Experience with managing direct reports is not required but will be taken into consideration; the FP&A Manager will not have direct reports immediately upon hiring, however may be considered as the team continues to grow.
  • Experience with manufacturing, technology, energy sectors is encouraged but not required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics and Microsoft Power BI (Business Intelligence) is a plus, but not required.
  • Must have passion for sustainability and the future of our planet


  • Advanced Excel: financial modeling, creation of supporting schedules and detailed forecasts based on assumptions; pivot tables, lookup functions, etc.
  • Fundamental understanding of financial analysis including emphasis on clear auditability as well as the importance of one’s choice of assumptions.
  • Accounting degree/certification is not required, but helpful.
  • Mastery of three-statement financials, with firm grasp of how assumptions and choices made during planning will show up in eventual financial results, is a must.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics and Microsoft Power BI (Business Intelligence) is a plus, but not required.
  • Keen eye for consistency in data; driven by persistence to dig in until satisfied with the underlying details and their implications on the whole picture.
  • Naturally attuned to designing and following good business processes, with a focus on optimization and continuous improvement.
  • Expected to deliver top-quality presentations with supporting data; ideal candidate will possess the insights and the communication skills to adapt key messages for different audiences.
  • Proven ability to work independently on detailed tasks.
  • Proven ability to manage complex processes involving multiple functional areas and stakeholders, with well-developed leadership and project management skills.
  • Cultivates the relationship between decisions and outcomes, synthesizes different points of view, and reaches well-thought conclusions.
  • Able to balance near-term priorities with keeping longer-term projects on-track.

  • Own the transition of new projects from the “business development” phase (more geared around high-level financial models) to the “operational” phase (more geared to specific budgets for company cash management and financial results)
  • Ensure timely, accurate forecasts and provide “MD&A” style discussion and variance analyses.
  • Support business process changes – in 2022 we are implementing a new ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics), led by a partnering function of the organization, and where integration with FP&A and budgeting will be critical
  • Should anticipate several big milestones per year including annual budget process, quarterly reforecasts and quarterly Board meetings; candidate is expected to manage their time effectively and can balance their life and work priorities through strong communication skills
  • Experience with managing direct reports is not required but will be taken into consideration; the FP&A Manager will not have direct reports immediately upon hiring, however may be considered as the team continues to grow

AeroFarms strongly encourages vaccination for all its workers, we adhere to all CDC, State and Federal requirements as needed. We operate indoor vertical farms that run 24/7!  We hope you think this is cool enough to warrant coming into work at least some of the time! We are still currently WFH mostly, but we anticipate returning to a new 3 days a week in person hybrid model at some point in the future. When? Who knows.
