Who we’re looking for:

At Iron Ox, we are automating the entire plant production process. From the development of multiple robot platforms, to our own custom hydroponic, seeding, and harvesting systems- we are taking a system level approach to creating the ideal farm. We are looking for a creative Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join the mobile robots team and architect the next generation of innovative hardware systems. This role will work closely with our software and electrical teams to develop the workhorse of the Iron Ox ecosystem.

What will you do?

Be instrumental in the design and implementation of new AGV hardware systems

Work with internal teams to gather system requirements and define performance specifications

Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to drive critical technology decisions

Generate early stage concepts and mock-ups

Perform detailed system design, analysis and testing

Validate concepts through engineering models and prototypes

Perform mechanical analysis using FEA as well as traditional hand calculations for static and dynamic forces

Specify industrial automation components such as motors, actuators, pneumatics, sensors, and safety systems

Manage manufacturing release and drive outside vendors to deliver high quality products on time

Work closely with the production team and CMs during manufacturing hand-off of new systems and or to enact design changes

Collaborate with the greater team to continually improve our internal processes and maintain a high quality standard in our work

What you bring to the table:

A collegial, no-ego approach to collaboration and working relationships

BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline

At least 5 years of experience working on a diverse array of mechanical projects

A demonstrated ability to own and drive projects from initial concept through completion with minimal oversight

A history of innovative problem solving and elegant design solutions

Experience in a small team/startup environment, accomplishing big things with minimal resources

Excellent SolidWorks skills with a commitment to best modeling practicesExperienced in FEA (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, etc.)

Experienced in DFM and fabrication with plastics, sheet metal, weldments,and machined components

Experience in the design of mechanisms, linkages, and power transmission systems

Experience manufacturing and prototyping in an array of engineering materials

Ability to clearly illustrate engineering and design concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

General understanding of tolerance analysis and stack up

General understanding of GD&T

Nice-To-Haves:

Direct experience in the design of electromechanical systems and robotics

Design experience focusing on human interaction and safety

Proficient at hands on metal fabrication (CNC Machining, welding, general shop tools)

Experience designing and integrating industrial automation and motion control systems

Experience with PDM systems and engineering release processes

A commitment to ID vision and an appreciation for the mix of form and function
