Our mission is to make biology easier to engineer. Ginkgo is constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe’s growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more. Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms.
We’re creating the codebase, compiler, and debugger for biology. Therefore, we’re looking for amazing Software Engineering Managers to help us design and build the best software that will define how bioengineers design organisms at scale.
Ginkgo has built a strong set of internal software tools, automation and processes that enable high-throughput genetic engineering across multiple species. We want to make them even better by adding to their capabilities and scaling their performance, while making them easier and more efficient to use. We are looking for Software Engineering Managers with a proven track record for building and leading interdisciplinary teams that deliver incredible scientific software. Additionally, we are looking for an Engineering Manager with a proven track record for scaling software infrastructure through architecture, DevOps and process. Please note: this position requires the ability to work onsite in our office in Boston’s exciting Seaport district.
Collaborate with Product Managers and Scientists to develop first-class biological applications that enable the design of biology
Oversee the creation and rollout of the this team’s technical roadmaps as well as the roadmaps of upstream and downstream teams by working closely with scientists, product managers, team leads, and engineering managers
Scale the capabilities of the team to meet the needs of a rapidly growing company
Actively build up and lead a team of amazing engineers and scientists, instilling team ownership and communication among cross-functional teams at Ginkgo
Ensure timely delivery of services by monitoring progress against deliverable timelines and removing obstacles to completion
Ensure quality deliverables by maintaining high standards and implementing appropriate processes
Champion and implement continuous process improvements to boost team productivity
Guide the technical and professional development of team members, including providing ongoing feedback to recognize their strengths and contributions and to address their points of growth
Collaborate with other Software Engineering Managers to ensure architecture and interface cohesion, consistency, and expandability
Desired Capabilities and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or higher in software, automation or scientific field, plus industry experience at the interface of these fields.
4+ years of engineering management experience and a proven track record of building teams that deliver scientific applications
Strong expertise in scaling teams
Proficiency in agile development
Demonstrated ability to break down complex problems into actionable steps
Eagerness to work with the best scientists and engineers on developing new solutions and tools to solve never-before-seen scientific challenges
