The Senior Manager for Sustainable Operations will report to the VP of Impact Strategy and will be an integral part of a team dedicated to excellence in business sustainability, impact strategy, and thought leadership. The Senior Manager will help the leadership team design energy, water, waste, and materiality goals aligned to organizational impact pillars. They will directly support and matrix-report to the Operations team in implementing business sustainability goals and ensuring that their client teams are resourced and set up for success in sustainable scaling and day-to-day operations.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Implement our climate strategy by supporting client teams in achieving decarbonization goals.
  • Help build and manage the supply chain sustainability program with the client team.
  • Works with the broader Impact team in establishing facility-level resource conservation goals. Identifies opportunities for resource data management and conservation. Advises on implementation of new conservation practices, stepping in as boots-on-ground to directly partner and engineer solutions that work for the business and the environment. 
  • Generates cost models for assessing investments in clean energy management and sustainability infrastructure / cap-ex desirable for achieving operational sustainability goals across facilities. 
  • Onboards and manages vendors and software for ESG data collection and analysis
  • Support engagement with local municipalities or external stakeholders for capital projects
  • Identify sector-level opportunities to generate shared progress on sustainability across the agricultural business landscape, particularly around enabling controlled environment agriculture (CEA) to grow sustainably at a pre-competitive level.
  • Train staff on any processes needed to ensure success in achieving business and sustainability KPIs
  • What You Will Bring

  • A collegial, no-ego approach to collaboration and working relationships
  • At least five years of relevant experience in built-environment or operational sustainability with an extensive data management background. Energy sector or manufacturing environment is a bonus.
  • A process engineering or industrial ecology background with fluency in operational technology platforms and server integrations. Total mastery of Excel / Tableau or other analytics software
  • A track record of successfully delivering shared progress on sustainability/ESG KPIs 
  • Fluency in GHG and decarbonization frameworks including but not limited to deep technical knowledge of SBTi, Net-Zero for Food/Ag, and green building frameworks and practices (e.g. LEED, BREEAM, etc).
  • Business acumen and respect for the challenges and constraints of hypergrowth, with an appetite for creative solutions and balancing priorities 
  • An ability to balance near-term priorities with long-term critical path needs
  • A clear and holistic understanding of ESG rating frameworks and some familiarity with financial reporting and relevant data management needs for carbon disclosures
  • High EQ and strong relationship-building skills: your colleagues are your clients and will rely on your support and engagement to achieve an array of goals. 
  • Nice-to-Haves

  • Fluency in R or HTML Advanced degree in relevant field (engineering, manufacturing, corporate sustainability, industrial ecology)
  • Ability to build an LCA and/or use LCA software and draw conclusions
