Summary: The Education & Community Engagement Specialist manages Farm Sanctuary’s Social Justice & Our Food System Community Learning and Alumni Programs and the development of a community engagement program. 

Responsibilities:

Social Justice & Equity

  • Ensures community learning and engagement programs align with the values of equity and social justice and reflect an understanding of food system and animal protection issues through a historical and social justice lens
  • Collaborates within and beyond the organization to foster a just and equitable organizational culture and cross-movement collaborations that ensure accessibility and belonging for a diverse set of community members 

Social Justice & Our Food System Community Learning and Alumni Programs

  • Oversees operational functions of community learning and alumni programs, including program marketing, registration and participant correspondence, program reporting, and program assessment
  • Co-facilitates live online community learning and alumni program sessions and monitors online forums
  • Supports the Director of Education & Community Engagement in program visioning and the development of curriculum, programming, and supplemental resources  

Community Engagement 

  • Manages the development of a new activist engagement program in collaboration with Policy and Communications Teams, that fosters community and mobilizes action in support of Farm Sanctuary’s mission and strategic priorities 
  • Collaborates across movements to identify and facilitate mission-aligned activist opportunities in partnership with food, worker, and climate justice organizations 
  • Facilitates a Community Partners hub within Farm Sanctuary to manage and track relationships with community leaders and partner organizations 

Humane Education

  • In-Classroom Instruction: The Education & Community Engagement Specialist will conduct in-classroom instruction through our virtual programs, as needed

Qualifications:

  • Proven professional interpersonal and relationship skills
  • Ability to think critically and strategically
  • Experience with program or project management 
  • Experience in grassroots advocacy and activist engagement preferred
  • Experience with youth or adult education (in-person and/or virtual) preferred
  • Knowledge of animal agriculture, the lives of farmed animals, veganism, and interrelated social justice issues of our food system preferred
  • Highly motivated toward promoting plant-based diet choices
  • Knowledge of equity and social justice frameworks, as well as contemporary and emerging justice movement trends 
  • Personal commitment to the mission of Farm Sanctuary
  • Degree in Education, Social Justice, Social Change, or a related field preferred
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred

Job Specifications:

  • This is a full-time, non-exempt position
  • This position is based remotely
  • The salary range is $49,000 – $59,000,  commensurate with experience
  • Flexibility to work some weekends and evenings for special programs, as needed
  • Ability to travel, as needed
