In this role you will help design, build, and commercialize new manufacturing processes, as well as drive continuous improvement of existing systems and processes. This role will work in close collaboration with the larger Engineering Team as well as a cross-functional internal and external partners including Process Sciences, Product Development, and Manufacturing groups. The position will focus on Downstream processes involved in converting protein isolate into finished packaged products and include opportunities to explore new technologies for manufacturing and scale up for the expansion of sustainable GOOD Meat.

Our ideal candidate will have a minimum BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years of experience in food manufacturing.  You are a self-starter that is highly effective working both independently as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. You have an acute curiosity about process performance and optimizing plant operations.  You can work independently at our manufacturing plants and with our manufacturing partners and be able to creatively adapt to changing timelines and priorities.  You should be willing to understand the complete production process from protein source to wastewater.  Finally, you are excited to be a vital contributor to a growing company as everything you do will have an impact on the success of Eat Just.

What you’ll do 

  • Develop and design exciting new processes in collaboration with Process Sciences, Pilot Plant, Food Sciences and Product Development;

  • Drive scale up from benchtop to pilot to commercial manufacturing by creating and communicating through process flow diagrams, P&ID’s, process narratives and heat and mass balances;

  • Explore new technologies and equipment to determine the best solution to meet process requirements and execute capital projects to implement them at scale in a manufacturing environment;

  • Work side by side with our expanding list of downstream partner manufacturers across the globe to scale up and optimize Eat Just processes.

  • Lead and develop capital projects and process improvements independently that increase production capacity and enhance safety, product quality, and profitability;

  • Lead start-up and commissioning of new equipment and processes at partner manufacturing facilities. Work closely with facility personnel and equipment suppliers to validate equipment performance and facilitate transition to Operations, Maintenance, and Sanitation teams;

  • Create internal and external documentation for equipment and process specifications, presentations, technical reports, and engineering specifications to communicate with manufacturing partners on process and equipment requirements;

  • Lead shop-floor validation and capability studies at our partner manufacturing facilities to support continuous improvement and cost savings efforts;

What you’ll bring 

Our ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual that can execute consistently while effectively working closely and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.

You have:

  • A B.S. in chemical or mechanical engineering with a curiosity that goes beyond area of expertise;

  • 7+ years of experience in a food process manufacturing environment including experience planning and executing large scale CapEx projects from conception to commissioning;

  • Engineering and design experience with thermal processing, high shear mixing, and ESL filling in a food manufacturing environment highly preferable;

  • Experience in Sanitary 3-A, USDA, and FDA food processing as well as HAACP, OSHA, and other norms for food production preferable;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to simplify and convey complex technical information to cross-functional stakeholders and downstream manufacturing partners;

  • Innovative and creative critical thinker with an analytical mindset and strong problem-solving skills;

  • Self-motivated, flexible, adaptable and possessing ability to “roll with the punches” in a fast-moving, fast-growing, start-up environment;

  • Able to pass a standard background check.

Additional Information & Requirements 

This is a full-time regular position based out of our Headquarters in Alameda, CA.

This role requires the ability to travel without restrictions both domestically and internationally 10-50% of the time.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and is frequently required to work standing for extended periods of time as well as climb stairs/ladders and elevated work platforms.
