Our aim is to scale Indigo quickly with a goal of $1+B in revenue by 2020. The Senior Software Engineer – Backend will engineer distributed backend systems and APIs that support internal and external stakeholders. This person will be responsible for building reliable backend systems in the cloud. This person will also be a critical member of a highly efficient and cohesive engineering team that is focused on the customer’s needs and requirements.
Design and align core functionality to support the core of the company.
Build and maintain APIs to support the core of Indigo’s business.
Work with engineers and teams throughout the company: Insights, Bidding, Contracting, Merchandise, Billing, Source, Carbon, UI, Mobile, ERP, etc.
Use a holistic view of all of Indigo’s lines of business to architect and build the easiest to use, reusable, most performant APIs.
Model Indigo’s and Indigo’s customers’ businesses.
Steward best security practices: via authorization and authentication
Preferred tech stack: Python 3, AWS, and associated technologies
Learn how all parts of Indigo work together – and how they work separately!
Use critical thinking to recognize company-wide patterns and design cross-cutting functionality to meet all needs
Work with the smartest engineers at Indigo – both inside DI and in the teams we support.
Build solid APIs with an eye toward reusability, maintainability, and performance

Experience with high-throughput, re-useable APIs
Prefer familiar with asynchronous processing and multithreading
Able to work towards multiple use cases simultaneously.
Can explain the pros and cons of approaches such as microservices vs. monoliths, mono vs. shared repos, containers vs. VMs, ReST vs. GraphQL, etc.
Thrives in a fast-paced environment
Has been building backend software professionally for 2+ years
Python 3 experience preferred, but not required
Experience with deployments to cloud environments (AWS preferred, but not required)
Experience with monitoring, logging and profiling best practices for distributed systems
Create thoroughly tested code that others can understand
You bring a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and self awareness
