New York, NY
Founded in 2015, Bowery Farming is on a mission to democratize access to high-quality, local, safe and sustainable produce. Bowery builds smart indoor farms near cities, growing fresher, pesticide-free Protected Produce with bold flavor in precisely controlled environments, 365 days a year. At the heart of each farm is the proprietary BoweryOS, which integrates software, hardware, sensors, AI, computer vision systems, machine learning models and robotics to orchestrate and automate the entirety of its operations. As a result, each farm creates far less waste and uses a fraction of the water and land compared to traditional agriculture.
About The Role:
At Bowery Farming, we are building the most agile supply chain in agriculture. As part of that mission, we are seeking to expand our Supply Chain team as we grow and evolve as a business. Bowery’s Supply Chain team is seeking a Supply Chain Master Scheduler to serve as the critical link between customer demand and the fresh produce Bowery grows in our indoor vertical farms. At its core, this role will seek to orchestrate the operations of our farms to offer our customers the freshest produce possible while keeping food waste to an absolute minimum. This role is based in Bowery’s headquarters in New York City, with occasional opportunities to travel to our farms. The role will report to the Director of Supply Chain Planning.
Bowery’s farms are highly flexible, and able to grow crops across a variety of schedules, environmental conditions, and varieties. The Supply Chain Master Scheduler will work directly with the Commercial, Operations, Technology, and Agricultural teams to ensure that every leaf of arugula or romaine makes it to our customers on time and to specification. In addition to thinking about how to develop a robust production plan, you will also consider the operational and system capacity implications as you translate that plan into a workable, efficient schedule for how we plant, grow, and package every crop. As Bowery continues to construct additional farms, there will be complex new planning and scheduling challenges to tackle. Your days will mix a focus between making high-impact daily operational decisions and charting the course towards a more optimized and automated future. A strong candidate will have solid analytical skills, great attention to detail, an enthusiasm for working with a diverse stakeholder base, and the ability to adapt to new environments quickly.
What You’ll Do:
Help Bowery’s farms manage complexity and variability to ensure Bowery never misses a customer order
Build and maintain daily crop planting, growing, and packaging schedules based on overall production plans and objectives
Help translate production plans into farm staffing plans, raw material procurement purchasing plans, etc.
Monitor actual production versus the plan, and actual schedules versus the master schedule, to help to track down, evaluate, and integrate root causes and solutions when variance occurs
Communicate impacts of new information on schedules and production expectations to cross-functional team
Partner with teams based at farms to develop and implement solutions to reduce waste
Run scenario analyses to understand tradeoffs and pros/cons of different approaches
Guide scoping and support development of new analytical approaches that provide deeper visibility, control, and automation within our planning processes in partnership with the BoweryOS in-house technology team
Manage and expand KPIs, including developing reporting and analytics, setting targets, and proposing initiatives to address gaps
Identify longer-term strategic opportunities to improve Bowery’s supply chain agility that enable successful scaling into new farms and new product lines
Who You Are:
Highly organized and structured – your analytical models are clean and clear, your meeting agendas are consistent and impactful, and your to-do list is prioritized
Data driven and able to translate extreme detail into easily absorbed output, with intuition for what matters most in a complex situation and the courage to stick to your guns, or to admit when you’re wrong
Collaborative teammate able to form trust based relationships with cross functional partners
Natural optimizer who enjoys solving analytical problems and driving solutions that leave nothing on the table
Track record of rolling up your sleeves and jumping into new situations even when not explicitly part of the role description
Experience and/or comfort working at an early stage company with rapidly evolving practices, tools, and strategies
High level of experience working in spreadsheet technologies like Excel and Google Sheets
Familiarity with database technologies like SQL
Fluency in core supply chain topics like supply-demand forecasting and inventory management
